Notification was just received that Evan Colborne (a recent alumni with the Black Watch U18b Celtic team) is a recipient of the 2008-2009 Region C Davis/Hackworth/Rosen Scholarship. Candidates for this memorial scholarship are judged in five areas: academics, citizenship, soccer commitment and commitment to the game and other extra-curricular activities.
Mr. Colborne had been a ten year soccer player at Black Watch. In that time Evan had been an FYSA State Cup Champion, Region C Cup Champion as well as a numerous League and Tournament Champion with his Black Watch Celtic team.
There are two major things that have set Evan apart from others.
Firstly, Evan was a total Club and Team player that possessed outstanding ability, dedication, commitment, and leadership. He was always at every practice and game and put his team and teammates first as their captain. Evan’s personality as a player and leader on the team was outstanding; he was always ready to do what ever it took. The thing that truly set him apart was his loyalty! It is without question to his Coaches, Club, Team and Teammates that his level of loyalty and commitment was unparalleled!
Secondly, Evan was the consummate student athlete as an A student in the IB Program at Hillsborough High School. Evan will attend this fall ColgateUniversity in New York as a recruited student athlete to their football team and athletic department.
Mr. Colborne was been a sterling example for the Black Watch Soccer Club and we are thrilled to see all his efforts recognized by this scholarship award.
We hear that Evan is leaning toward a college major in education with the thought of teaching mathematics at a high school level. He is also looking at a minor in biology. He is sure that coaching is in his future mainly due to the fact of his exposure to such great Black Watch coaches as Winston DuBose, Steve Wegerle, Jim DiNobile and especially his dad. He is excited about being a member of the Colgate Raider football team as a place kicker and hopes to be handling the kick-off, extra point and field goal duties in the fall.
We wish the very best for you, Evan, as you begin your college years as well as to you your parents, Steven & Susan Colborne, who were always there to support you, your team and the club throughout your youth soccer years. Congratulations!
