The U14b Blue, coached by Mauricio Pesaresi, had a successful weekend at that 13th Annual West Pines Kickoff Classic, October 24-25, 2009. In pool play they achieved a win against saa Real Madrid (2-0) and Weston (3-0) and a tie with Florida Rush Nike (2-2) – all great teams. Then their wishes were granted – they were to play West Pines in the finals match. The Fusion FC U14b Blue (last season’s U13) succumbed to West Pines (0-3) in the State Cup finals last May. The majority of West Pines roster are on Region III ODP team(s) and one is on the U15 National team and is one of the top teams in Region III. Coach Pesaresi and his team wanted another opportunity to play this great competitor.
It was a hard fought battle right up until the very end. Although the final score in the last minutes of the game ended as a loss of 2-3, the Fusion U14b Blue team were very proud of their accomplishment.
Despite the challenges the team was faced this weekend with (two players playing with pulled muscles, one with the flu, one badly bruised, etc.), Coach Mauricio said, “Our team played with intelligence and courage and made all of us very proud.”
